Build Your Résumé - What to put in - what to leave out

Basic elements that must be included:

  • Personal details - name, address, telephone numbers and email address.
  • Education.
  • Other; if relevant to your objective you may want to include information on memberships, awards and honours.
  • Objective.
  • Summary statement.
  • Work experience.
  • A Tip On Email Addresses:

Make sure your email address has a professional address. An address that you or your friends may find humourous may be offensive to the recipient or might give an employer an impression of immaturity.

If you need to, create a new, more professional email address using one of the many free webmail accounts available online.

    What do I leave out?
    • Salary requirements.
    • Outside activities which are not relevant such as church or political affiliations.
    • Age, race, marital status or any other personal information which is not relevant.
